Questions

Frequently Asked

The things people ask before they call. If yours is not here, text us a photo of the pond and we will answer it straight.

What makes mechanical pond cleaning different from spraying?

Spraying kills the plant and leaves it in the water. It sinks, rots on the bottom, and turns into the nutrients that feed the next bloom. So you are back where you started in a few weeks, and now there is a dead layer of muck on the bottom too. We physically remove the growth. The track loader and rake pull the algae, cattails, and floating mats out of the water and set them on the bank. Nothing is left to rot. What is gone is gone.

Is it safe for my fish and my livestock?

Yes. We never put anything in the water. No herbicide, no algaecide, no dye, nothing. Because there are no chemicals, there is no waiting period and no risk to the fish. Cattle and horses can drink from the pond the same day we work it. That is the whole reason we do it this way.

Will the algae just come back?

Some regrowth is normal because ponds are living things, but it comes back far slower than after a spray job. When you spray, the dead plant matter stays in the pond and becomes fertilizer for the next bloom, so it returns fast and often worse. When we remove the growth, we remove the nutrients locked up in it too. Many ponds go a full season or longer before they need another visit, and some only need us once.

How long does a job take?

Most ponds are a half day to a full day. A small stock tank with one problem might be a couple of hours. A large pond that has not been touched in years can run multiple days. We give you the time estimate with the quote so there are no surprises.

What size ponds and stock tanks do you handle?

Everything from a quarter-acre stock tank to ponds of several acres. The compact track loader and rake are built for the big overgrown jobs that hand tools cannot touch, but we work small tanks too. If you are not sure, send photos and we will tell you straight whether it is a job for us.

What happens to the material you pull out?

You choose. Most ranch owners have us leave it on-site to compost, stacked on the bank or a spot they pick, and it breaks down on its own. We can also move it to a designated disposal area on your property. Or we haul it off the property as a paid add-on. We go over the options before we start.

What is the best time of year to clean a pond?

Late spring through early fall is prime, when the growth is up and easy to reach and the ground is firm enough for the machine. That said, we work year round. Winter can be a good time to get ahead of a pond before the next growing season, and the water is clearer to see what we are doing.

Do you clean stock tanks, not just ponds?

Yes. Stock tanks are a big part of what we do. Ranchers depend on that water for their herd, and a tank choked with algae or cattails is a problem you cannot spray your way out of if livestock drink from it. Mechanical removal keeps the water usable with no chemical worry.

What areas do you serve?

The Dallas and Fort Worth metro and East Texas. That covers Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis, and the surrounding counties, out east through Van Zandt, Henderson, Smith, Wood, and Gregg. If you are near the edge of that, ask. We travel for the right job.

How does quoting work?

Fastest way is to text a few photos of the pond to our number. We can size up most jobs from good photos and give you a starting range the same day. For bigger or trickier ponds we come out and walk it with you. Either way the final number comes before any work starts, and there is no monthly contract attached to it.
